003 H55 COMMUNITY CENTRE
Prague, Czech Republic | 2013 | Competition
Located in an outer district of Prague, the key concept is to connect the surrounding gardens and street using the new building as the connector. Evoking the traditional courtyard houses of the area, the new community centre will not be a solid single mass of impenetrable building. Instead, 5 self contained pavilions, connected to each other by open space. This provides flexibility and freedom, while allowing for spontaneous interaction in the spaces in between.
As the proposal is a series of interconnected pavilions, it is necessary to delineate the site boundary yet not with a solid, closed wall. A diaphanous boundary is created composed of bronze fins which allows the site to be defined but also ensures views out and in, sunlight and access.
